I was really impressed by the variety of stalls and information on NDIS related services for Sydney and Australia Wide. I was amazed by the modern innovations and services; including vans that can accommodate up to 2 wheelchairs, and services such as ‘Gig Buddies’ that match NDIS participants with like-minded volunteers to go see live music.
One of the most impressive developments came from a family-run company called ‘SeaAccess Australia’ who are striving to make the ocean assessable to all with their ‘SeaAccess’ device that can allow wheelchair-bound individuals to access the ocean!
About SeaAccess
SeaAccess is the first remote-controlled folding ramp that offers autonomous access to the sea for people with restricted mobility. The innovative mechanism, with its built-in folding ramp and the ability to move easily across the sand, is placed right next to the shoreline and unfolds to be ready for use in just a few minutes.
Equally it can easily and immediately be retracted from the beach when conditions are not safe for swimming. SeaAccess Australia found their calling while on an overseas trip “We discovered SeaAccess while on holiday in Greece. We came across this innovative device on a beach and were inspired by its potential.
After chatting with the creators, we knew we had to bring it to Australian shores. We're passionate about making our beaches accessible for everyone, especially our friends with limited mobility. We're currently in discussions for potential trials and demos and working on securing council approvals to make this vision a reality.”
